Save on buying books for your lit class
I have nothing against books. In fact, I adore books, no matter how old or new they happen to be. But some college students (like those at my lovely campus) are required to take classes called something like “World Cultures” that mainly focus on rounding out our literary base with the reading of old (and I mean old) classics like the Tao Te Ching and Gilgamesh.
The Internet to the rescue! As, of course, it always is. Many books that are in the public domain are available on-line for your perusal. And I don’t mean limited views or snippets, either. Often, the full texts can be found and read. Just as long as your professors don’t mind.
For example, Pride and Prejudice can be found at Bibliomania, a site that offers full texts of many novels, drama series, and interviews. You can also found poetry there. There are many other web sites where this holds true, so a basic search for a book in the public domain (generally over 75 years old) will probably bring up a number of pages that offer the full text.
